Main Street Wadsworth Receives Ohio Senate Proclamation for Wadsworth Candlelight Walk

November 18, 2017 By mainstreetadmin

(Wadsworth, Ohio, November 21, 2017) Main Street Wadsworth has been recognized by the Ohio Senate for its annual Candlelight Walk event, which was held on November 17, 2017.

Senate President Larry Obhof provided the special proclamation to Main Street Wadsworth “[o]n behalf of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio” for its influence on “economic development for local businesses, along with creating a festive spirit of community during the holiday season.”

The Candlelight Walk is a long-standing tradition in the City of Wadsworth. It is an occasion that brings the community together for a parade, horse and carriage rides, activities for all ages, photos with Santa, and other seasonal festivities.

This year, highlights of the evening included a ribbon cutting for a new children’s wing at the Wadsworth Public Library downtown, the lighting of the downtown tree, the reading of an illustrated children’s story written and narrated by Franklin Elementary School Principal Roger Havens, an outdoor “Kris Kringle Market,” Snowflake Theater performances at Crossroads Community Church, miniature train rides, Johnson House Museum tours, music and activities held at Grace Lutheran Church, and holiday specials offered by downtown businesses.

An estimated 3,000 people visited the downtown between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., filling the streets with energy and excitement, welcoming the holiday season in a historic downtown with beautifully lighted trees and buildings.

“We are so grateful to all of our supporters for creating a memorable evening for Wadsworth’s residents,” said Adrianne Krauss, Executive Director of Main Street Wadsworth. “We are all working hard to create a vibrant downtown, and we couldn’t do it without the support of our wonderful City, volunteers, businesses, and organizations that have come together with a common goal of making downtown Wadsworth ‘the place to be.’”

Main Street Wadsworth wishes to thank the many organizations, sponsors, and local businesses that helped to put on the Candlelight Walk, including Mayor Robin Laubaugh, The City of Wadsworth Administration, Parks, Police, and Street Departments, the Blue Tip Committee, Medina County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Thurber’s Jewelers, The Village of St. Edward, Kohl’s, Plastipak Packaging, Inc. and AI Root Company (for luminaries and candles), the Main Street Wadsworth Promotion Committee, and Main Street Wadsworth’s fantastic volunteers.
